Calley Homes have taken out the 2018 Supreme Renovation of the Year for a harbourside home in Tauranga. The company has a rich history in the competition with seven GOLD awards from its previous entries.
“We were blown away by the win. The project had multiple challenges due to it being situated on a cross lease section which basically meant the renovation was limited to the existing footprint. We had to be creative to ensure the new design maximised space and function. A key objective in the client’s brief was also to improve the relationship with the indoor/outdoor flow out to the harbours edge”, says Johnny Calley, Director of Calley Homes
Originally a 1990’s "chillybin" house with plastered polystyrene the owners wanted Calley Homes to tackle a full renovation and make it a family home with a relaxed Bach vibe.
The judges said the renovation has transformed the home into a seaside bach with a nautical look and feel.
"Being on a cross lease property meant that the home had major restrictions imposed on the footprint. The renovation included the removal of the existing roof and replacement of a new monopitched flying cantilevered roof system. There was complete recladding and reconfigured internal walls to improve flow and form.
"The builder has produced an outstanding renovation.”
The Bach style home features a board and batten exterior in white and interior Hardy Groove walls to create character and a relaxed beachside vibe.
“At the beginning of the project we identified the existing floor levels differed by 70mm meaning our construction methodology needed to accommodate unpractical variables which normally result in compromise. Our entire team was amazing in responding to all those challenges and the level of workmanship achieved is outstanding’’ says Johnny
The result is a beachside home with tonnes of character and a relaxed feel.
The Tauranga renovation also won Calley Homes a Gold Award and Category win for the Master Build 10-Year Guarantee Renovation up to $500,000 Award.
‘“After ten years of business in the Tauranga building industry we’re pretty stoked with what we have achieved. I think the award results speak for themselves and our focus hasn’t changed. Design & Build excellence” says Johnny.
National category winners and the Registered Master Builders 2018 Supreme Awards for House of the Year and Renovation of the Year will be announced on 24 November at a function in Auckland.
